In order to make each room in my house more eco-friendly, I looked at all the waste that I produced and one of the most upsetting realizations was how environmentally harmful my cleaning products were.
Like most people, I had sacrificed sustainability for convenience. But these products helped me eliminate waste and save money overtime.

I had always been skeptical of using vinegar as a cleaning product, but after some research I decided to give it a try. Once I added a few drops of essential oil to help the vinegar smell it became much more tolerable to use.
I’ve mainly been using it as an all purpose cleaner but you can read my five favorite ways to use it right here!
2. Wood Fiber Cleansing Cloths
I wanted to get reusable cloths for cleaning, so that I could reduce the waste of wipes and paper towels. After looking into it I found out that a lot of microfiber cloths can create micro-plastics when washed. These wood fiber cloths are great for cleaning countertops and won’t create micro-plastic waste when you wash them.
3. Biodegradable Sponge
This sponge is marketed for use in the kitchen, but I found that it worked just fine for cleaning my bathroom sinks and shower.
They’re definitely a little pricy compared to traditional sponges, but they have held up very well since I’ve gotten them and they’re much more sustainable than common cleaning sponges.
4. Puracy All-Purpose Cleaner
If you don’t want to use vinegar as your all-purpose cleaner (which I completely understand) I found that this product is a good sustainable swap.
While I haven’t tried it myself, it was the most well reviewed eco-friendly cleaner that I found, that’s also within a reasonable price range. A bonus to using eco-conscious cleaners is that they don’t harm children and pets unlike products containing harsh chemicals.
5. Better Life Floor Cleaner
This floor cleaner is non-toxic and made with 100% plant derived cleaning agents. While the bottle is plastic, it’s 32 ounces so it will last a long time. It can also be diluted with water to further the use of the product. On top of the environmental benefits, its also cruelty free!
6. Reusable Mop Cover
These cotton mop covers have elastic so that they can fit to any mop and can be reused to save waste from disposable mop pads. You can also make your own mop covers by taking a piece of old fabric and using velcro pieces to secure it to the mop.
7. MOSO Natural Air Freshener
Unlike aerosol air fresheners, these air purifying bags remove odor with activated charcoal and no fragrances or chemicals. They can also be reused for up to two years so they will save money compared to can air fresheners that are used up quickly.
I hope these sustainable cleaning products help make your home a little more eco-friendly and encourage you to make changes towards a more sustainable lifestyle. Thank you for reading, have a lovely day!
